Woodmere Art Museum
Interactive Map Design and Development
Woodmere’s Outdoor Wonder is a unique experience that brings art in conversation with environmental science and horticultural interest. The outdoor exhibit showcases sculptural work set harmoniously within the embrace of nature and the museum's picturesque grounds. Within Woodmere Outdoor Wonder, you’ll encounter not only sculptures crafted by renowned artists, but also towering 19th-century estate trees, a vibrant pollinator garden, and stormwater management features such as a bioswale and cascading step pools. As a way of celebrating recent updates to this exhibition, Woodmere engaged Lyquix to design and develop an interactive map that would increase engagement and alleviate common wayfinding challenges.

Setting the Framework
Our process began with an exploration of the current user flow and conducting comprehensive market research. This provided valuable insights into user expectations and familiar interactions. Subsequently, we created and tested multiple iterations of wireframes, user flows, and prototypes. This approach allowed us to find a solution that merged intuitive user experience with Woodmere’s specific requirements and objectives.

Rendering Works of Art
To create the map graphic, the Lyquix design team utilized the foundation of line drawings and architecture sketches provided by Woodmere, ensuring precision in the replication of the actual grounds. Additionally, we worked with reference photography to produce custom icon illustrations for each sculpture and outdoor feature. This addition of detail not only emphasized the works of art as the central focus but also breathed life into the map, transforming it into an engaging resource for users.

Results
Since the launch of the interactive map, Woodmere’s Outdoor Wonder has had a substantial boost in engagement and visitor satisfaction. Visitors are now equipped with a resource that allows them to explore the grounds with confidence, enabling them to fully enjoy everything Woodmere has to offer. The project’s resounding success has prompted Woodmere to potential implementation of similar interactive resources in their indoor exhibitions as well, further enhancing the overall visitor experience.
